Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand the overall aircraft design process from initial concept to final design plans.
- Translate mission requirements into key aircraft design parameters.
- Perform preliminary sizing and weight estimations for aircraft.
- Evaluate different aircraft configurations and select the most suitable option for a given mission.
- Apply fundamental aerodynamic and structural principles to aircraft design.
- Select appropriate materials and design structural components.
- Understand the integration of propulsion and other aircraft systems.
- Generate detailed design drawings and specifications according to industry standards.
- Consider manufacturing and assembly aspects during the design process.
- Understand the regulatory requirements and certification process for aircraft.
- Utilize CAD software to create and manage airplane design plans.
Prerequisites:
A background in basic physics and mathematics (including calculus) is recommended. Familiarity with introductory aerospace engineering concepts would be beneficial but not always required.
