Course Description:

This course explores the theory and practice of hydroponics—an innovative method of growing plants without soil. Students will learn the history, systems, nutrient management, and design of hydroponic farms, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, food security, and spiritual stewardship of the Earth. The course includes practical laboratory work, project-based learning, and opportunities to design functioning hydroponic systems.


Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the basic science behind hydroponic systems.
  • Identify and compare various types of hydroponic systems (NFT, DWC, aeroponics, etc.).
  • Design and maintain a small-scale hydroponic farm.
  • Manage plant nutrition and water quality for optimal growth.
  • Assess the sustainability and socio-economic potential of hydroponic agriculture.
  • Integrate holistic and ethical principles into food production systems.
