Course Description
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the Rastafari movement, tracing its origins, development, theology, culture, and global impact. Through a study of historical texts, speeches, music, and lived experiences, students will gain a deep understanding of Rastafari as a spiritual, social, and cultural movement rooted in African consciousness and liberation.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will:
- Understand the historical roots and emergence of Rastafari in Jamaica.
- Explore the theological foundations, including the divinity of Haile Selassie I.
- Analyze Rastafari symbols, language, and livity (way of life).
- Examine the influence of reggae music and global culture.
- Develop respect for Rastafari as a legitimate spiritual tradition.
